The California real estate salesperson exam covers a lot of ground, but a focused study plan makes it manageable. Here’s how to prepare step by step.
Know the exam format
The salesperson exam is 150 multiple-choice questions, and you have three hours and fifteen minutes. You need 70% to pass. Knowing the structure ahead of time removes a lot of test-day anxiety.
Build a weekly study schedule
- Set a target exam date and work backward.
- Study in focused 45-minute blocks with short breaks.
- Cover one topic area per session, then review.
- Take a full-length practice exam every week.
Focus on the high-weight topics
Practice of real estate, contracts, and property ownership make up a large share of the questions. Prioritize them, but don’t ignore financing and transfer of property.
